All Horses are special, but there is something particular about this mare. Banshee was rescued off an Eastern Washington feed lot along with Caspain in September 2018. She was only six years old, just at the start of her life, before being a few days away from shipping to slaughter. When my team and I arrived on the property, we saw a long aisle way with dozens of horses on each side separated into pens. This spunky grey horse was the first one to greet us on the scene. We all instantly fell in love but decided it would be smart to look at all the horses before picking one to take home. We walked up and down the aisle way several times, and to our surprise Banshee followed us up and down, back and forth, every time. Other horses continued to mind their own business, eat, etc. but Banshee wouldn't leave our side. We all knew this was her cry for help, she couldn't have been yelling louder. One of our team members felt so strongly connected towards Banshee that she decided to generously donate the cost of her bail fee in order to take her home, and that was it! Both Banshee and Caspain loaded into the trailer and off we went. Wishing we could have saved more, we knew these two had a special purpose to continue on in life. The definition of Banshee is a 'grey haired female spirit whose shrieking portrays sudden death', the name could not have been more suited as that is exactly what this horse did in her cry for help. Banshee is a wild spirit who bonded immensely with Caspain, forming almost a mother daughter like relationship. They were adopted as a pair by a wonderful woman and her family, and now receive love everyday!
