What we do

Kataluna Horse Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization created in September of 2018 that is dedicated towards saving the slaughter bound, or any horse in need, to give them a second chance at life. We vow to help any animal reaching out for help, however focus specifically on freedom from feedlots for horses awaiting their last days before shipping to Mexico or Canada for meat consumption purposes. We take in horses from all over the country but mainly out of the Pacific Northwest where our 'home base' is located.

Jasper & Crunch

Jasper & Crunch

Jasper & Crunch

Crunch and Jasper are an extremely sweet and gentle bonded pair of geldings! Crunch is a 16 year old paint gelding with one eye and his buddy Jasper is a early 20s all black gelding with a white star. Both boys were rescued from a kill pen in Texas and brought up to Washington to give them a second chance at a life they deserve! They are both rideable, both love cookies, and are quite bonded after their journey home (Crunch more so thank Jasper). Crunch came from the Amish and although he is rideable to the most gentle state, he is still learning the correct cues as we believe he may have been a cart horse more than a riding horse. Jasper on the other hand definitely knows his way around working with people and is wonderfully respectful under saddle! Both boys will be checked out by our vet and up to date on working, vaccines, teeth floating & trims. Ideally, due to their connection, we would like to find them a home together. Their adoption fee is $1500 each.

Honey

Jasper & Crunch

Jasper & Crunch

Honey is an estimated early to mid 20s senior Belgian mare we rescued from a feedlot in Arkansas just hours before she was to ship to slaughter. She arrived at our farm in October 2022 and has since made some huge leaps in her recovery process! Honey is thriving on her path to a new start in life and has quickly won the hearts of everyone on the farm. She is up to date on all her working, vaccines, and dental work. She is an extremely sweet girl, however coming from the Amish she does have a work horse mindset. She likes to have a job. Honey is comfortable with people on her back, enjoys attention, treats, and being brushed, however we do not believe she has been ridden much as she seems to get confused by our leg cues. She would follow any horse anywhere and may be a good potential trail horse! She is lower on the totem pole and would need a continuation with lots of hay and grain in her diet to help keep putting that weight on! Honey is an angel and will make someone very happy! Honeys adoption fee is $2000.

Fudge

Fudge

Fudge

Fudge is a five-year-old off the track thoroughbred who came to Kataluna back in September 2021. He has stolen the hearts of everyone on the farm and it’s basically 1000 pound puppy dog. Fudge went through surgery on both knees to repair severe bone chips in January and has since made a full recovery! He has a sound walk, trot, and canter, and is ready for a job! Fudge is currently living on the farm full time and is being sponsored by one of our incredible volunteers, where he gets loved on and adored every day. Fudges adoption fee is $3500.

Adoption video coming soon! Check out our social media for more on fudge!

Luka

Fudge

Fudge

Luka is a 30 year old grey Arab gelding who has the spunk of an early teen. Although Luka is a senior, he still has so much life left in him and will make great company for a family of his own! He has been checked over by our vet with a clean bill of health, and is gaining weight and strength every day on our farm! He has bonded so well with our volunteers and Horses, and is great with kids! He would make a wonderful family horse or Pasture pal. If you’re interested in learning more about Luka please feel free to send us a message! Lukas adoption fee is $500.

Juno & Amira

Juno & Amira

Juno & Amira

Juno & Amira are the most beautiful mother daughter pair! Juno is a brown and white paint mare in her early 20s who is mother of Amira, a gorgeous Percheron cross bay filly 2-4 months old. These two are some of the absolute kindest horses I’ve come across. Juno is friendly and nickers at every person who walks by, and Amira is an angel you would never guess to be so young with how mature she acts. We rescued Juno and Amira together just hours before shipping to slaughter after they had already endured multiple auctions due to no fault of their own. It breaks my heart knowing Amira has already been through so much at such a young age.

Amira will in fact be up for adoption individually when she is at the correct age to be weaned in a few months, and Juno is scheduled for a vet appointment ASAP to get her another pregnancy check as the feedlot informed us she may be carrying another foal. For updates on these two, please be sure to stay tuned on our social media @katalunahorserescue!

Miley

Juno & Amira

Juno & Amira

Miley is an incredibly sweet and smart little Palomino mare we rescued from a local Washington livestock auction. She is estimated around 10 years old and full of light & personality! Miley will be working with one of our close friends and trainers for the next 30 days to help her get a good head start in her rehabilitation process as she does not have any dire health or behavioral restrictions, and will be available for adoption after that training process has been completed! With that will be able to know more about her training background and whether or not Miley is rideable.

Mila

Juno & Amira

Mila

Mila is a guesstimated 6-10 year old Friesian Percheron cross mare we recently brought into Kataluna by decision of our founder Katie Berman. Mila is not our usual rescue case, as she was not a direct ship slaughter horse like we usually tend to focus on. However, Mila was living on a feedlot with hundreds of other horses, mares, geldings, stallions, foals, etc. and supposedly is nine months pregnant being ridden. Katie felt a strong connection in her heart that this mare was someone special and needed our help. She is not technically a Kataluna Rescue as Katie has taken her on a personal project to help her on her journey, however she is still residing at our farm learning what it is like to feel love and peace. Follow more of Mila’s story on our socials!

SPONSOR a furry friend!

Although our goal is to adopt out to forever homes, several of our rescues reside permanently at Kataluna and require just as much love and maintenance as anyone else!

By sponsoring an animal, you donate a small monthly fee that goes directly towards their  specific health & care. Sponsorship rights also include the ability to come visit that animal whenever you'd like as well as receive monthly photo updates with special "surprise gifts" from your furry friend!
