Kataluna Horse Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization created in September of 2018 that is dedicated towards saving the slaughter bound, or any horse in need, to give them a second chance at life. We vow to help any animal reaching out for help, however focus specifically on freedom from feedlots for horses awaiting their last days before shipping to Mexico or Canada for meat consumption purposes. We take in horses from all over the country but mainly out of the Pacific Northwest where our 'home base' is located.
We are always welcome to donations that go directly towards care for the horses including vet care and feed, farrier care, and regular upkeep of our animals. We are certified organization 86-1448386 and accept donation via PayPal, Venmo, cash, and check. We are also set with through Benetivity Microsoft Matching Program. We appreciate any and all contributions made! We cant save every life but it all starts with ONE. It all starts with YOU.

Juno & Amira are the most beautiful mother daughter pair! Juno is a brown and white paint mare in her early 20s who is mother of Amira, a gorgeous Percheron cross bay filly roughly 6 months old. These two are some of the absolute kindest horses I’ve come across. Juno is friendly and nickers at every person who walks by, and Amira is an angel you would never guess to be so young with how mature she acts. We rescued Juno and Amira together just hours before shipping to slaughter after they had already endured multiple auctions due to no fault of their own. It breaks my heart knowing Amira has already been through so much at such a young age. After a few months at the rescue, they are officially ready to be up for adoption! We are open to these two being adopted together, or separately depending on the home applicable as we want what is in ther best interest. Amira is ready to go any direction, and Juno would make a lovely family or kids horse. She can be ridden at a walk and has a very smooth trot under saddle as well!
Amir’s Adoption fee- $800
Junos Adoption Fee- $1200
Tango is a very sweet and curious weanling colt. We rescued him from our local auction with salsa and jitterbug. Tango has not been treated very well in the first few months of his life but we’re determined to change that from here on out. He has since been checked over by our vet, and is making leaping strides in his 30 days of training with one of our Kataluna trainers. Tango is roughly around 4 months old and ready to start his journey as a very special project horse for someone! He can be brushed and can lead on a halter but is still timid around people so will need a patient loving home to continue his training!
Tangos adoption fee- $450
Crunch is a 8-10 year old paint gelding who is as sweet as can be. He was rescued from a kill pen in texas just moments before shipping to slaughter (Along with his buddy Jasper). He is very sweet with any level rider and has a beautiful walk and trot under saddle, however crunch has had some abusive history so likely needs more of An intermediate to experienced home, rather than a beginner home that is new to horses. Crunch has been used with kids, and adults In lessons and is ready to live a happy life! Click below to watch Crunch’s adoption video.
Crunch’s Adoption fee- $1500
Jasper is a handsome all black 15HHe gelding who was rescued from a feedlot in Texas along with a Crunch just shortly before they were due to ship to slaughter. Jasper is in his early to mid twenties But is a real gem for a horse person looking for that special companion for a family horse, or for your kids to love and learn on. He is as sweet as can be but needs a little extra love and care as he is a senior horse and been worked rather hard throughout his life before being dumped at auction. Take a look at jaspers adoption video below to see how sweet this boy really is!
Jaspers Adoption Fee- $1500
Mila is a guesstimated 6-10 year old Friesian Percheron cross mare we recently brought into Kataluna by decision of our founder Katie Berman. Mila is not our usual rescue case, as she was not a direct ship slaughter horse like we usually tend to focus on. However, Mila was living on a feedlot with hundreds of other horses, mares, geldings, stallions, foals, etc. and supposedly is nine months pregnant being ridden. Katie felt a strong connection in her heart that this mare was someone special and needed our help. She is not technically a Kataluna Rescue as Katie has taken her on a personal project to help her on her journey, however she is still residing at our farm learning what it is like to feel love and peace. Follow more of Mila’s story on our socials!
Salsa is a very sweet late teens buckskin mare who came to Kataluna in April from our local feedlot, along with Jitterbug and Tango. Salsa is a friendly attention loving mare who is going to make a very special family horse when she’s ready to find her forever home!
Jitterbug is a roughly 10 year old mare who came from our local livestock auction in April. When we first saw her she was very timid and wanted to be anywhere but where a human was. Upon her evaluation in the lot, I had a feeling we would be helping more than one life by taking her home that day. As it turns out jitterbug will be expecting a little foal this spring and we are thrilled to have been able to save not one but two lives and give them the peace they oh so deserve. Jitterbug is becoming more confident and friendly each day!
Although our goal is to adopt out to forever homes, several of our rescues reside permanently at Kataluna and require just as much love and maintenance as anyone else!
