Kataluna Horse Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization created in September of 2018 that is dedicated towards saving the slaughter bound, or any horse in need, to give them a second chance at life. We vow to help any animal reaching out for help, however focus specifically on freedom from feedlots for horses awaiting their last days before shipping to Mexico or Canada for meat consumption purposes. We take in horses from all over the country but mainly out of the Pacific Northwest where our 'home base' is located.
We are always welcome to donations that go directly towards care for the horses including vet care and feed, farrier care, and regular upkeep of our animals. We are certified organization 86-1443836 and accept donation via PayPal, Venmo, cash, and check. We are also set with through Benetivity Microsoft Matching Program. We appreciate any and all contributions made! We cant save every life but it all starts with ONE. It all starts with YOU.

Salem is a roughly 20 year old mare who came from a livestock sale in November 2023. Salem has spent a lot of time working on confidence and trust building, and is getting started back in the saddle as we build up her muscles and balance again! Salem will make a great addition to an intermediate/experienced home looking for a good companion or partner to take on the world! More to come on Salem as she continues her training and rehab here at Kataluna!
Salsa is an extremely sweet and friendly 18-20 year old beautiful buckskin mare who is ready to make someone a wonderful riding partner! Salsa definitely knows her stuff under saddle, however when she came to Kataluna was extremely emaciated and we believe has not been worked with much in quite some time. Salsa has since been going through her rehab process and retraining as well with one of our Kataluna trainers over in Redmond and is making leaping strides! She can be walked and trotted beautifully under saddle and is working on building up her muscle again to being loping and ground poles. Salsa is up to date on her worming, vaccines and hoof care. She is healthy and sound however could benefit from some joint supplements. Salsas adoption fee is $1200.
Jitterbug is officially ready for her forever home! Jitterbug arrived at kataluna back in April and has since been living her life just learning to be loved. She is about 8-10 years old and was very hesitant around people when she first arrived but can now lead on a halter, be groomed, and loves cuddles and cookies. Jitterbug is currently being started to ride. Jitterbug is up to date on worming, vaccines, and her dentals. Jitterbugs adoption fee is $1200.
Sable is a spunky and confident five year old Friesian, Spanish bred, cross mare that is ready to find her forever partner in life willing to go out and accomplish life adventures! Sable does have what is called a "sway back" due to poor breeding, however she has been evaluated by our vet and determined no pain or discomfort associated with her spine and has been given the green light for any kind of training and riding her and her human desire! We are unaware at this time if Sable has been started to ride, and are currently working with her to get to that point in our training program. She is up to date on all vaccines, worming, dental floats, and vet exams, and we do believe would do best with an experienced horse home. Sables adoption fee is $750.
Ernie is a senior gelding who was rescued from a livestock auction in august completely emaciated. He was a "no sale" at the lot which meant he was in such bad shape not even the kill buyer wanted him. He was to be taken out back and shot unless he came home with us, so of course there was no way I was leaving this sweet old man behind. Ernie has a heart of gold, he loves scratches and attention, and is looking for a family to spend the rest of his happy days with. Ernie is fully retired and looking for a loving home as a companion horse.
Although our goal is to adopt out to forever homes, several of our rescues reside permanently at Kataluna and require just as much love and maintenance as anyone else!
By sponsoring an animal, you donate a small monthly fee that goes directly towards their specific health & care. Sponsorship rights also include the ability to come visit that animal whenever you'd like as well as receive monthly photo updates with special "surprise gifts" from your furry friend!
