Piper is a registered American Paint Horse at 10 years of age, she is one of the spunkiest most outgoing horses I have ever met with a huge personality! She is one of those horses who remain young at heart even through old age I have no doubt. Piper is one of the few horses we has worked with who has not come from a neglectful background. She was loved by her previous people, and raised and bred to become a champion show horse. However, Piper was broke to ride at a mere year and a half... because she was started so young this caused early onset arthritis in her back hocks causing her to be unable to perform to the desired level of her owners. In a recent veterinary exam we also discovered Piper has Fibrotic Myopathy, which is abnormal scar tissue within muscle tissue. We are unaware of the cause of this, however it doesn't seem to effect piper negatively. Piper was still a perfectly happy and healthy horse, she just could not perform as much as her previous owners would have liked, and therefore scheduled to be euthanized. I knew Piper for a short while in her 'prime', so hearing this news that simply because she could not ride well she was to be put to rest broke my heart. A friend of mine who also knew piper, and myself, jumped on the opportunity to do everything in our power to save this horse. Piper was once of the first horses we had ever rescued in 2016, which was two years before Kataluna was even created. Katie had felt a very special connection to Piper but new that the ultimate goal was to find her a forever home. Since 2014, Piper has been through two different homes. She is the only horse who has ever come back to the rescue, due to no fault of her own, however because of this Katie has decided to adopt her, herself. Everything happens for a reason, and Piper had managed to make sure she stayed with the human she chose. After a few years of back and forth, Piper has found her forever home.
