Lucky is a mid teens miniature horse stallion who we had actually tried to rescue for several months before we were finally able to take him home. He roamed freely on a large grass pasture for a few years with below standard care. Rich sugary grass can be very dangerous for minis as they are easily prone to founder. He was severely overweight, covered in burrs, and hadn't had his feet trimmed in far too long.
After months of attempts his owner finally let us take him home and get him taken care of. During all the commotion and updates about his jounrey i was sharing on our social media, I received a message from someone who claimed she use to own “Lucky”. I immediately began chatting with her and this has evolved into the most incredible heart warming story.
Lucky was a big part of her family farm growing up and was one of her favorite minis in the whole place, some uncertainties happened when the family fell on hard times and a member of the farm ended up selling Lucky. Crazy enough he was sold to a farmer who owned a farm I used to run this rescue out of for two years before we moved summer of 2020. Lucky was there long before I came to that property. That farmer eventually sold him to a backyard breeder, who then sold him to the guy we rescued him from in Feburary 2021 (Poor little lucky has been all over the place with some not so great treatment as you can clearly see)
This woman was sending me photos and telling me stories about him. Things had been hard for her over the past few months, and she was looking for a sign to help guide her forward, when crazy enough she opened up her phone and saw his photo on our page after several years of not seeing or knowing what happened to him. She only knows about our rescue through a mutual friend.
We planned for her to come see him the night after we brought him home and got him settled.
The reuniting of these two and the story that went with them brought tears to my eyes especially after such an emotional day as we dealt with several other animal rescues of goats and pigs that same day. After all these years of not knowing what happened to him, this woman and her favorite little mini are back together again. So many little pieces that made this puzzle fit.
After a few weeks of trying to plan, as amazing as this story is, we had to come to the difficult conclusion that it was not the right timing for xman to go back with his original family. Due to no fault of his own, his family had prior responsibilities to their current senior horse that made it difficult for them to take in another. They love xman very much and still support him and the rescue in every way they can! Since then, xman was officially adopted out in March 2021 to an amazing local family and spoils him like the king he deserves to be treated as! They go for daily walks in the neighborhood and he is the town favorite.
As it turns out (not that papers are important to us here), Lucky is quite the ladies man!! His actual name is “X Marks the Spot” and he comes from an insanely well bred string of bloodlines in the miniature horse world!
Lucky, now officially back to “X-man”. He has since seen the vet and farrier and once he is back in a little better shape and we get him all taken care of, he will be finally returning to his home with his family.
