Jax has been one of the most complex horses so far that have come into Kataluna. Coming off the feedlot, it's difficult to know what these horses have been through and what their history is. For Jax, who we took in March 19th 2019, we could only assume that he has been through the wringer and back. We decided to take him home because with his deadline coming up quick, and he was the only horse you couldn't approach and put on a halter. With patience and persistence we were able to guide him into a smaller pen and eventually halter him up. Luckily, he got into the trailer without issue and off to the sanctuary we went. For the first two weeks of his quarantine, we spent a lot of time simply 'being present' with Jax. If you approached him he would run the other way, once we were able to touch him, if you simply laid you hand down he would start to tremble in whatever place you touched. Since then, Jax is still with us and is making tremendous strides! He approaches us in the pasture ready to engage and play, he is still working on being comfortably touched but has been ridden and enjoys games and walks. He was adopted in February 2020 by a wonderful woman who has really connected and bonded with Jax. They make an amazing pair and continue to grow every day.
