Blitz (short for Blitzen) came to Kataluna in December of 2020 as our last rescue before the new year. She is in her mid teens, about 15hh and is quite the special girl. Blitz came from our local auction yard and was said to be for sale as a "grandkids horse that the kids simply outgrew". There are so many reasons why this phrase is upsetting, one being the fact that this horse may have served this family for years and put countless smiles on peoples faces, yet when they "outgrew" the horse phase they simply threw her away to an unknowing fate. Blitz seemed quite calm at the auction however upon coming home we soon began to have some uncertain feelings about her being drugged at the auction. Drugging horses for a quick sale is something that unfortunately happens too often in the horse world. We don't know for sure if this was the case for Blitz but since arriving at Kataluna she has been a completely different horse than what we saw that first night. She is still as sweet as can be and wants to trust in people, we have noticed she tends to enjoy the company of men over women at the moment, however she is nervous and will need a partner who can help build her confidence back up. Blitz was officially adopted to her new home in March 2020, and now lives an amazing life with her little family and herd mate.
